Yesterday was the Vietnam Veterans Welcome Home parade in Pigeon - TopicsExpress

Yesterday was the Vietnam Veterans Welcome Home parade in Pigeon Forge. My brother died a few years ago due to agent orange/cancer so he had been on my mind all morning. I was running late so I grabbed the back of a mls paper & wrote Thank You Vets. I went by myself & shortly before the parade begin a Vet came up beside me & stayed the whole parade just about (man in red shirt). When the parade begin & the first group of vets walked by..the tall elderly man sitting in a chair beside me see picture) with a Korean War/Vietnam veterans hat stood up so proudly and erect and gave a full standing salute. At this point, I nearly lost it, standing beside such a man/veteran/hero. The whole parade all the people walking & on floats, most veterans themselves, came over to the two men beside me and thanked them for their service and shook their hand. Many many veterans looked at me holding my sign and said thank you and gave me the thumbs up. It was a wonderful awesome day. When my brother was drafted years ago, he and so many others never questioned whether the war was right or wrong, they had been taught in school about service & sacrifice & how America had always been right in battles, so they went without questions. Can you imagine being 19 & sent to war in a foreign country & someone is shooting at you & all you ever knew before was small town life? Then instead of a ticker tape parade like all other war veterans you were treated harshly? Did you see the local vet on Tv this morning crying because of our actions then & now? Young mothers, teach your children to go to a vet, stick their hands out and shake hands and say thank you. Its one of the best lessons you will ever teach them. Next year, make it a point to come out and support this parade. With all the crazy Isis & radicals its the future vets that will be put to the test too. Freedom isnt free..it comes with a high price & if you dont agree with the war, the president who sent them, it doesnt matter....support the vets.
