Yesterday we interrupted Harinam around 5.15 pm as it started to rain. We quickly settled in the subway and resumed chanting. The sound of the mridanga was bouncing off the walls causing people to dance. In the confined space the maha mantra could be heard loud and clear. At one point it seemed like masses of people sat, stood or danced around us. Every time a train pulled into the station its screeching would drown us but as it pulled out our voices would surge like a tidal wave. Ram Roy cautioned me to keep the kirtan mellow as masses of curious, absorbed, dancing people cramped in a small space in N York city could spell trouble, though Nama Prabhu mesmerised and captivated them all.
