Yesterday we were at the beautiful Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church, helping with the Churches Trust Forum - an annual event where representatives from Churches Trusts across the UK gather to share ideas, inspiration and success stories from the past year. It was a really brilliant event, with a fantastic line-up who deserve huge thanks. Zoe van Zwanenberg from the Good Society Project of Churches Together in Britain and Ireland spoke very movingly about church and faith groups’ huge contribution to society. Kate Streeter, Project Manager of SPABS Maintenance Cooperatives Project, reminded us all of the importance of staving off decay in our church buildings through daily care. Diana Evans, Head of Listed Places of Worship Advice at English Heritage (and a new member of the National Churches Trusts Grants Committee!), shared the latest news about English Heritages fantastic work with the church sector. And Sarah Holloway, Coordinator at Heritage Open Days, inspired us all with advice on how our churches can make the very most of their event. As if this wasnt enough, we also ran two special workshops: Chris Field from JustGiving and Andy Hamflett from AAM Associates imparted priceless advice on how to make the very most of online fundraising, and Andrew Day from Compton Fundraising Consultants (another National Churches Trust Trustee!) shared his huge expertise in how small charities should run fundraising campaigns. Over our delicious lunch Faith Bowers from Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church gave a wonderfully informative talk on the history of their stunning building and Alan Perrin from Cambridge UAV threw us into the future with a stall demonstrating how Drones (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) are being used more and more to survey church buildings. Roll on next year!
