Yesterdays Mason Square Neighborhood Picnic sponsored by the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department, Springfield Police, City of Springfield and the MA State Police, among others, was a wonderful affirmation of what happens when people who love their community come together. It was good to see so many friends, but especially to be approached by a former inmate. His story of success in his new life greatly moved me. He thanked me for the Sheriff’s Department programs that changed his life. I thanked him and reminded him that it is all of us in the Department who make it happen as a team. To my fellow brothers and sisters in the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department: Thank you for all you do. I hear stories like this man’s every day. Together, we make a difference in people’s lives. I am humbled to serve with you and so grateful to hear another story of success today. - Nick
