Yesterdays post discussed the reasons why excitotoxins such as MSG are so damaging to the body. MSG is one of the worst food additives for ones health. Yet, it is widely used in canned soups, crackers, meats, salad dressings, frozen dinners and even in baby food and infant formula. MSG enhances the flavor of foods, making processed meals and frozen dinners taste fresher and smell better, salad dressings are tastier and canned foods less tinny. Its clear shy MSG benefits the food industry but its likely this food additive is slowly doing major damage to the publics health. In 1959, the FDA labeled MSG as Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) and had remained that way ever since. Yet, the medical literature describes many serious side effects from foods containing glutamic acid or otherwise MSG. Some of these are skin rashes, nausea, migraine headaches, mild headaches, heart irregularities, seizures, eye damage, fatigue and disorientation, depression, numbness, burning sensation, tingling, facial pressure or tightness, chest main or difficulty breathing, rapid heartbeat, drowsiness and weakness. Because of all negative health effects associated with MSG consumption, the FDA finally required the use of MSG to be shown on the ingredient label. However, most MSG containing processed foods DO NOT LIST MSG ON THE LABEL. This is because they use other names like textured soy protein, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, autolyzed yeast extract, yeast extract - just name a few, while the FDA turns a blind eye to the deception.
