Yesterday’s Champions League Semi Final first leg was what could be politely called a battle of attrition. Chelsea staunchly squatted in their half, like there was some property dispute on, which entailed the danger of eviction. Occasionally they sent a couple of emissaries, to check how the weather was on the other side. Atletico tried to break down the British side, by rather inexplicably persisting with an essentially British ‘high ball in the box’ game. Hence goal bound action was as scarce, as a truly visionary statement this election season.
