Yet more from my mom about Grandma, since I have so many of you involved in the story now: Theyre hoping to keep her in the hospital a few more days which will trigger some rehab clause (or something like that) which will allow them to help her get her strength back. Theres some plan afoot to get her in the same place as some friend of hers as its considered motivation for her to eat and try to do strengthening work, which shes not willing to do now. Everyone seems fairly positive but is taking it one step at a time. It looks like no way will I be visiting her at home, but the plan is still that shes on the mend and should be doing well before long. Of course, at her age well is relative. I feel like shes earned her good sleep, and her quality of life isnt what it used to be, but selfishly I dont want her to go just yet. I feel like shes the last shepherd over a lot of family memories. When I watched The Brady Bunch with Dan and Anna the other night, it ended with me feeling very sad because I realized the furniture and luxuries of the Bradys were what I always associated with my big city grandparents. It really is a time gone by. My poor grandma only sort of understands the Internet and her iPad, but she used to be the woman who baked cookies and took me to the mall. And gave me crazy tight home perms. Shes still got some kick in her, because shes in the hospital fussing about my uncle who is staying at the house to help make sure shes okay in the hospital. But whats he going to eat? she keeps asking. Because shes not there to cook for him, which is unacceptable.
