Yin Pencil on paper The word Yin means “shady side” - the dark half of the Yin and Yang symbol. With this drawing i really wanted to say a lot about how far too many African women are on the dark/shady side of life. Most are single moms, an uncountable number are dealing with domestic violence and rape culture. In the first drawing (the more realistic looking one), i sorta messed up the hair because i tried making it really dark using the wrong pencil (it happens :D ). What i wanted to do (which is in the second drawing - toony looking one) is drive home the incomprehensible idea of being in such a negative (yin) space and looking naturally beautiful at the same time. I placed the cosmic flower in where one would find the small circle from the Yang half as sign that it will take both halves (yin&yang, dark&light, FEMALE&MALE) to achieve balance and peace.
