You Could Drink Of It by © Susan Nixon Seagulls called on a warm spring day, Sweetness Surrounded the bay. Time passes… Frost whitecaps top A January eve, Crashing down while ice heaves. Sand whips in churned patterns Across the beach, Hardened by winter. The sun, low in the sky Feels sharp and clean. The sea Messages waves to the edge Of the surf. Oceans of thought Fall upon me As nearly as the sea. Fluffy sea foam Bumbles over the fern frost. My feet, heavy with the chill of winter, Crack through frozen sand. Somewhere, Deep under the January weather Was the June sea I knew. The summer maiden of beauty With sunlight So seeping You could drink of it Even in January.
