You all know that I am a Huge supporter of Boy Scouts. I love what they teach our young boys about life and how to prepare for it. Well today I had the privilege of seeing first hand what scouts can do. Today I signed my first merit badge card for a scout from Troop 70. I am a merit badge counselor for 7 different badges but I had the Privilege of meeting John a few weeks ago when he came to me to take his ham radio license exam. I advised him that I am also a merit badge counselor for the radio merit badge and to get in touch if he wanted to go for the badge. within 2 days I received an email asking when we could get together and that day was today. John and his mom came and he brought all of his materials to show he earned his badge and we talked for a few hours about radio and many other topics. But thats not what I am trying to point out. John was a pleasure to speak to, Knowledgeable in all of the topics he learned to earn the badge and all the badges he has earned and for what I saw, He is a very well rounded asset to his community. THESE are the things Scouting (and good Parenting) really teaches the boys without them even realizing it. This boy is going to go far in life and I look forward to hearing he has completed his project and earned his Eagle scout in the coming year and I am thrilled that I got to be a part of that.
