You can view the aftermath of the failed rocket launch at this link. The rocket was not manned but was to carry 5,000lbs of supplies to the International Space Station. The one thing that did go right for the rocket, it appears, is that it self-destructed (as some in the media are saying it is programmed to do) when something went wrong. The alternative would be that it spiral out of control and crash into something with people inside. No one on the ground was hurt but there is substantial property and vehicle damage. Its a shame to see the failure of this rocket launch. NASA does amazing things to help improve our knowledge of science and most of the time these science missions occur without anyone even noticing. Now that there was a failure there will be more attention to NASA (probably negative). Fortunately no people were on this rocket. We cant improve our knowledge of the universe without risk. I certainly hope this does not negatively impact the future of NASAs role in space exploration.
