You know... I wasnt going to talk about this here, but its happened twice in three days... People coming on this page to tell me how to write my books. You all know I love my readers and that Im deeply thankful for the amazing support you all have given me. In the last couple of days, Ive been told by the two readers in question that I dont care about my readers, that Im ungracious and ungrateful--all because I chose to tell them its rude to come to an authors public page and tell her how to write her books. Let me just say for the record (in case you didnt know)--I care DEEPLY about my readers and their opinions about my books (good, bad, ugly, indifferent--I can take it). Im extremely grateful for the career and the life I have thanks to the support of my readers. But I draw the line at being publicly told how I should write my books, especially when those comments are phrased less than politely. When you have a public career and profile, you have to let a lot of things roll off your back, and I usually ignore stuff thats less than friendly. But I cant ignore people coming on my page and telling me how to write my books. If youve read or participated in these exchanges, I wanted you to know that I appreciate your support of me and my books. If you have really strong feelings about how books should be written, perhaps thats a calling you should follow and write your own books rather than calling out an author on her Facebook page with your demands for HER books. Then you can do any old thing you want with your characters, but you cant with mine. Sorry.
