You know, if the educational system was brutally honest with children about historical events, specifically with regard to accuracy, and started teaching the finer points of how politics (really) work in this country in grade school, there would likely end up being a massive overhaul in government in terms of both personnel and policy within a couple generations. It would likely eviscerate the blind patriotism and trust in government that is indoctrinated from a young age and teach people that they have to work hard and be dilligent to have a country and political leaders to be proud of instead. Just a thought I had in the aftermath of the government shutdown. Teachers, feel free to disagree but I imagine it must grind your gears to relay information that is an oversimplification or just plain not true.
