You know it is a slow news day on Thai tv when they report about a guy stealing a chicken from a Big C grocery store. Can not honestly say it was an interesting day for myself. The weather has been very hot and humid hitting almost 100 today. I did some shopping other than that i stayed in my hotel room much of the day. I did finally see a foreigner in the distance today. The first i can remember seeing in the last few weeks. It has been at least a month since i last spoke English with a foreigner and that was in Laos a friendly American. The Thais tend to be much more approachable and friendly when i am wandering. Many often stop me and wish to chat. My amulet is always noticed and for some reason the Thais figure i likely can speak with them. Whenever i hide it under my shirt oddly i am rarely stopped. Always funny watching their reaction whenever i am in the market for example and suddenly speak . Often they jump not expecting me to speak Thai. I am still learning everyday and it turned out to be the smartest thing i ever did. The staff at my hotel in Nakhon Sawan have always been kind and helpful. I am one of the few foreigners that ever stay here and i am happy to translate for them whenever they need me. And in turn they often do me many favors. I have two more nights here before heading towards Samut Prakan province outside of Bangkok and then on the 18th fly to Japan and transfer to my flight to America. I no longer stay in Bangkok for numerous reasons. Too many foreigners in many areas, the city is interesting to a point but loud, dirty and crowded. Where i now stay is quiet and peaceful. Which is what i need before returning to America. Unless you have spent a great deal of time outside your home country it is hard to understand what it is like for me returning. I suffer from what is called Reverse Culture Shock and for a good month or more i feel out of my skin. Or in a sort of dream state. It is a very uncomfortable feeling even after sixteen trips visiting Southeast Asia i never seem to adjust very well when returning. Of course the first Americans i get to meet are U.S. Customs and Immigration . I dread it !!!!
