You know, it is really starting to bug me that other people cant simply accept that you have different religious beliefs than they do. For a religion that is supposedly based on love, acceptance and morality, like Christianity, Catholicism, Judaism, they (usually) have NO love or acceptance for someone that does not share their beliefs, and feel it is necessary to argue with you, demean/degrade you, and tell you you are flat out WRONG if you do not believe what they do. Why? Seriously, WHY? I have been an atheist (see, I can literally hear most of you gasping and getting ready to prepare a long, pointless speech about how Im going to burn in hell, etc... etc...) since I was in middle school, maybe early high school, and I am entirely HAPPY that way. It has not made me any less loving or accepting of others, and guess what? I still have the same morals I had as when I believed in Catholicism. I know it is wrong to lie, cheat, steal, and murder. Yes, sometimes I make mistakes (although I admit I have never murdered anybody, nor do I feel the need to), but no more than anybody else in the world, religion or no religion. It honestly says something about religion I believe when more atheists/agnostics are more accepting of other peoples beliefs than they are of ours. In my family, the ONLY person who is okay with this is my mom and my uncle. I have had other family members bash me, degrade me, YELL at me, and threaten me that I am going to Hell, but they love one of my best friends who is an agnostic. Yet I am totally supportive of the fact that they DO believe in a God, a Heaven and a Hell, but they cant support that that sort of beliefs just arent something I share. Now I guarantee certain family members are going to see this and become absolutely enraged (Ive had one threaten to kick me out.... again, so much for love and acceptance) but Im just sick of the fact that most people cant simply say You know what? If that is what you believe, than more power to you. It might not be what I believe, but you have every right as an American and more importantly, a HUMAN BEING, to believe anything and everything you want.
