You know that I dont like to post negative stuff, but I feel its important. So we have 5 indoor rescue cats, plus 3.5 outdoor strays that we fixed a while back and they made our front and backyard their home. One of them is Shooki, a small black bear, big cat with a heart of a little kitty. He came to us a few years ago, and after a while got the mange and was covered basically head to toe. We caught him and treated him, as well as fixed him - and since then, he is super friendly and loves to be held in our arms. He wont come inside though, as much as we would like that to happen. Anyhow, Shooki loves the front yard - he has some other fixed strays who live a couple of houses from us and they hang out together. On Saturday he was taking a nap in a box we put by our front door, as the nights were getting colder. Two loose pit bulls, who belong to someone in the neighborhood (a few blocks away) ambushed him and mauled him real good, a few seconds until I heard the commotion and ran outside to scare them away. Now, three days after the event, and after a whole day in which Shooki was MIA, I can say that he is probably going to be ok. He eats, walks, poops, loves to cuddle and be held again. He is hurting, but hopefully its not fatal. And he is secure in the backyard. I beg you, dog owners, to take responsibility and make sure your dogs are kept within your premises. If you cant, dont have a dog, especially not the vicious kind. We dont have a weapon and probably never will, but honestly, I felt like I wanted one when I ran out and saw whats happening. I hope these dogs rot in hell, and their owners, too.
