You know whats kind of funny? Islam is identified as primarily owning its existence to the lineage of the Abrahamic faiths, i.e., Judaism and Christianity. Bear in mind that Islam didnt exist until the mid to late of the first millennium A.D. - about the same time that the late Roman Empire (western) was collapsing and the early Roman Empire (eastern) was hitting its stride. This frame of a couple hundred years also marks the first time that Christianity is established as an official religion and with the Roman Empire still being the singular superpower of Europe, Northern Africa, and Asia Minor, it only makes sense that it begins the Christian diaspora. What I mean to convey is this: if you accuse Islam of being a violent, evil, or corrupt religion, remember who its parents are: Christianity and Judaism. If Islam is a perversion of Christianity, then Christianity is logically a perversion of Judaism. Look at it like this: the Quran and its major prophet, Muhammad, represent the end of the Judeo-Christian lineage (as we know it). At the time when Christianity emerged, it assumed the same position - that it was the end of the Abrahamic lineage and its prophet, Jesus, was the last. In fact, the primary reason that Christianity and Islam 1500 years later is that both claim to have the last word and neither will respect the tradition of the other for what it brings to the table. Islam is actually -closer- to radical (i.e. fundamental) Christianity and Judaism than most Protestant denominations are themselves, in terms of values and rules. The difference is that Islam has largely avoided the enormous fragmentation that its parents have suffered. In other words, Islam and Christianity are fighting over the last slice of pizza while Judaism tries to tell both of them that there is more people on the way for the people who act rationally and lovingly (dont try to pigeonhole conflicts in/with Israel as being representative of all Jews). Judaism and its holy book, the Tanakh (which Christianity adopts for its Old Testament), says: Hey guys, I know it might look like were out of pizza for now, but I promise theres more on the way. Christianity and its holy book, the Bible (primarily the New Testament), says: I was born first, so I should get the last slice of pizza because Mom (Judaism) doesnt believe its the last one and youre too puerile for you to understand its value. Islam and its holy book, the Quran (which uses stories and values from both books), says: I was born second, so I should get the last slice of pizza because Mom doesnt believe its the last one and youre too arrogant to understand its value. Moral of the story: treat your family like family or Yahweh / God / Allah is going to be pissed off when he gets home from work.
