"You only have I chosen of all the families of the earth; I will - TopicsExpress

"You only have I chosen of all the families of the earth; I will punish you for all your sins" (Amos 3:2). (Amos 2:13--3:6). Many in Israel were of the opinion that being chosen by God brought with it special exemptions and benefits. God would not send the "fire" of judgement on his covenant people would He? A people who worship Him regulary; who pay their tithes consistently to support the religious life of the nation? Does all this sound familure? They were the chosen people; therefore, they deserve certain exemptions and benefits. What they failed to grasp was that the covanent relationship with God included responsibility and accountability. Moses had emphasized this truth at Mount Sinai when he stressed to the people what God`s response would be to both obediance and disobediance to his word (Lev. 26). As the chosen people of God, their personal and national life was to reveal the moral and ethical qualities presented in the Law. Their holy, loving, and just God will hold His people accountable. The apostle Paul reminds his readers and us today that we will all stand before the judgement seat of God and give account of ourselves to him (Rom. 14:10, 12). May we by God`s enabeling grace, live in loving obediance to His will and therby, hear these welcoming words: "WELL DONE, GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT." (Paraphrased, Ronald Beech, RE--FLECTING GOD 7/12/13). Dont forget the concert by 7Eventh Time Down 7:00 pm. at River of Hope Fellowship I 29 and Hwy 159.
