You probably know this building as The University City Hall , but it was built as a headquarters for the Womans Magazine , by Edward Gardner Lewis a manufacturer of pesticides and some questionable medicines. in 1903 .It was designed by Herbert Chivers , who also worked on the Union Station project .In 1903 the worlds largest carbon arc searchlight was installed and first used at the opening of the fair on April 30 , 1904 .It is an eighty inch light made by General Electric Co. and shone with at least a billion candlepower .The building was included in the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 .The Womans Magazine had the nations largest publication at the time . From time to time the light is displayed , I cant remember the last time . Maybe someone can add more info about this interesting place .
