You still have a chance to have your say. Will Hodgman’s Anti-Worker (Wage-Freeze) Bill is about so much more than a wage-freeze. The Bill; • Permanently junks the independence of the Tasmanian Industrial Commission by allowing the Treasurer to issue a regulation to fix the outcome of any matter before the Commission. • Hands the Treasurer permanent, absolute and unilateral power to set the pay and conditions of all public service workers – forever. • Ends any pretence to a process of good-faith bargaining in the Tasmanian public sector by fixing a permanent annualised 2% wage increase across the sector unless otherwise determined by the Treasurer. • Breaches Australia’s obligations as a signatory to the conventions of the International Labour Organisation by restricting the right to freedom of association and the capacity for collective bargaining. The Bill will go to the Legislative Council next week and there is a good chance it will vote down these laws. We need just 500 more signatures to reach 3,000.
