YouBible Devotional Genesis 6:22 Ethics may be an elective in seminary, but it is a required course in the real world of leading. Once you give up your ethics, life isn’t a piece of cake. It’s a disaster ... Whenever a door slams shut, a leader breathes the fresh air of an opening window—and embarks on another cathedral-like display of ambition and hope. Before reaching that final anchorage in the sky, leaders build “acts of optimism”: acts of imagination envisioning new realities that prove seaworthy for whatever waters in which they find themselves. A leader is someone willing to build an ark in the dark. Noah listened to a call that others heard as foolishness. Too much of how we lead in the church is based on trying to please everyone but the One who matters. Every ethical shortcut we take, no matter how small, dampens the music of our leadership. Leonard I. Sweet MAT 3:7-10 NIV: But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing, he said to them: “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not think you can say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. PSA 3:1-8 NIV: Lord , how many are my foes! How many rise up against me! Many are saying of me, “God will not deliver him.” But you, Lord , are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. I call out to the Lord , and he answers me from his holy mountain. I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me. I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side. Arise, Lord ! Deliver me, my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked. From the Lord comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people.
