#YoungestGovernor. Nasarawa State governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, yesterday handed over power to the Speaker of the state children parliament, Hon. Richard Aga, as a ceremonial governor of the state to commemorate his 61st birthday anniversary. The handover ceremony, which took place at the council chambers of the Government House, Lafia, before the Deputy Governor, Damishi Luka and members of the state executive council and other political office holders, was only to allow the ceremonial governor take charge of the state for one day. Al-Makura said: “The essence of handing over to the ceremonial governor is for him to assist in bringing peace to the state and as well to preach peace to the various segments of the Nasarawa society as he takes the mantle of leadership. “At the end of his one-day tenure, government will support him to tour the entire state and preach peace to the people.” In his state-wide broadcast, the ceremonial governor called on the residents of the state to embrace peace, stability and progress in the interest of the state. Accordingly, he appealed to all citizens of the state to see themselves as agents of peace and development at all times as this was the duty they owed the present and future generations. His words: “I, therefore, use this occasion to appeal to all and sundry in our God-given state to lay-down their arms and embrace peace. Accordingly, we all must work to build a united and strong state for the good of our people.”
