Your Base Retiree Office Retiree Services Offices, found under - TopicsExpress

Your Base Retiree Office Retiree Services Offices, found under other names in the different branches, are found at most installations and are there to support the retiree community with information and help with programs, forms, etc. They rely heavily upon military retirees such as yourself to volunteer. In many cases, these offices are understaffed, reducing opening hours and service. AMRA encourages all its members who live near a military installation to consider setting some time aside weekly to help out. It’s often said that military retirees are complacent, that as long they’re getting their monthly check and health care, nothing else matters. We hope that’s not the attitude of AMRA members, especially if a disabled retiree makes a special trip to the base only to find that the door is locked. More volunteers will mean someone will be there to answer the phone to tell your spouse what to do when you have unexpectedly passed away. More hands on deck means you won’t have to make several calls before connecting with a live person when your pension is late arriving. Adequate volunteer staffing means better training and better representation with the Base Retiree Council. Yes, this is one service military retirees need to insist upon being available, even if they live far from an active duty base. AMRA gives kudos to the many top-notch, dedicated retiree services office staff across the nation who not only provide accurate, timely service to retirees and annually host retiree activity days. We know that the best way to bring retiree issues to the forefront is with an active RSO staff. If you live near enough to an installation to help, we urge you to do so...ASAP!
