Your opinion is needed. I live in Camp Hill. There are two trees on my property near the sidewalk. They are two feet from each other - a hackberry and a catalpa. When I bought the house in 2000, they were in dire need of pruning and removal of broken branches. The trees are kept well fed and manicured and there is no sign of weakness, rot or disease. Our neighbor across the street from us wants us to completely remove the catalpa tree (the tallest of the two) because it might fall on his house and kill him or a member of his family, or one of the other neighbors. He even offered to pay $250 towards its removal. The man hates trees and their debris. He cant stand to have even one leaf on his driveway. Anyway, both trees have deep and wide root systems and removing one would require removal if the other (he knows this). He even had someone come out two years ago to inspect the trees and were told they were healthy then. He didnt suggest possibly trimming the tree to a height that would not allow it to reach his house, should it ever fall. He just wants it gone. These trees are beautiful, provide nice shade for our house and shelter for the many birds, squirrels and other small animals, as well as attract a certain moth that hummingbirds like to eat. If we removed every tree in our town that could possibly fall on someones house, business or car, there would be only a few young trees left. So tell me what you would do. P.S. There is a licensed arborist coming to check the trees in the near future.
