The initiative by myclimate and the ETH Spin-Off ACTIS is dedicated to build a network of young leaders around the world to advance sustainability in all countries and professional fields – in collaboration with UNEP and the Alliance for Global Sustainability (a university partnership of ETH Zürich, MIT Cambridge, University of Tokyo and Chalmers University). Thanks to our generous partners, we can offer very low participation fees which include all services from the arrival to the departure (accommodation, full board, all local transportation, excursions, side activities, fees and a high-quality course program). The way towards a sustainable society is a global challenge. In all countries and professional fields, change-makers are needed who are able to deal with complex and dynamic questions arising in our world society today. The YES courses offer a 15-18 day intensive learning program: exploring environmental, economic, social, and technological complexities; providing a deeper understanding of multidisciplinary and transcultural perspectives in addressing these challenges; and combining the scientific state-of-the-art with active entrepreneuring knowledge. The YES course is designed for upper level undergraduate (3rd year minimum) and graduate (Masters and PhD) students and young professionals from all regions and disciplines. A typical YES course brings together around 30 students and young professionals from 25 different countries and a large number of different disciplines. Since its inception in 2000, 41 basic and special YES courses in 12 different international locations were conducted. Over 1500 students from 400 educational institutions in 140 countries have participated. The faculty included experts i.e. from ETH Zürich, Harvard, Stanford, MIT, University of Tokyo, Chalmers, Humboldt Berlin. Many of the YES alumni have established programs and organizations dealing with sustainable development, climate change, agriculture, community services, and education. 43% of the YES alumni are in leadership positions (YES alumni survey 2012). Our participants say YES is a unique, motivating and inspiring experience, offering a lasting impact on the professional, academic and personal development, and creating a network of friends and contacts for life.
