Youth employment: @Kwaragovt to partner FG on SME Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has spoken of his administration’s intention to partner Federal Government and investors to exploit the Small Medium Enterprises (SME) endowment in the state to ensure that youths are gainfully employed. He added that Small Medium Enterprises (SME) would soon be turned around to become one of the major revenue yielding sectors towards the development of the state economy. The governor who spoke through the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Industry and Solid Minerals Development, Mrs Bosede Orunmuyi at an Entrepreneurship Development Training programme in Ilorin, also underscored the importance of capacity building, pointing out that the place of the capacity building in any business endeavour cannot be over emphasized. He disclosed that the government had adopted an integral capacity development approach to achieve the desired economic growth. According to him, “the training programme will capture thematic issues such as general entrepreneurship, concept of production, basic booking and business plan formulation among others to stimulate vocational skills of participants. Governor Ahmed added that necessary efforts would be made to cluster participants into cooperative groups for easier access to multi million naira fund set aside for micro-credit scheme in the state. He maintained that his government would continue to give necessary support to entrepreneurs until full potential of the Small Scale Industries are realized in terms of job and wealth creation. The governor commended the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) for entrepreneurship development programme, which he said, was in line with the state’s empowerment scheme aimed at encouraging business initiatives. Also speaking, the Ilorin Manager of SMEDAN, Engr. (Mrs) Zainab Abdulmalik, said the training was focused on youths and women with a view to empowering and making the self-reliant. She added that participants were trained on general entrepreneurship, book and record keeping, business plan development, soap making, baking among others. In his remarks, the Managing Director, 3T Consulting Nigeria Limited, Mr Jimi Morgan, said the purpose of the programme was to identify peoples’ entrepreneurial and training need, design and implement an effective training among others.
