Youth from Bomet county have called for change of leadership from the old generation to the young. The youths said they are tired of the old style of leaderships and vowed to support a governor willing to endorse a young person as running mate. They said issues facing the young people are being ignored by the current generation of leaders. Led by Theopilus Rop, the youths said they are going to go an extra mile to ensure a youth become a deputy governor if not a governor. Speaking at a workshop on devolved governance hosted by Silibwet Vision Youth group at Emkwen Youth Polytechnic, they said for a long time youths have been used as a stepping stone to leadership and their needs ignored. “We are no longer the leaders of tomorrow and that is what we want all those who still believe so to know that we are today’s leaders and they should not be shock once we endorse one of our own during the next elections,” said Rop. Rop said unemployment among the youths is due to lack of representation in leadership positions to enable them voice their needs. “The leadership of the old generation has to come to an end today not tomorrow and those who are not ready to listen to our plea have no option but to pack and go home,” he said. He added: “They can ignore our pleas today but we will ignore them tomorrow at the ballot and vote one of our own who is ready to address the woes being faced by the youths.” At the same time the youths expressed their displeasure on politicians who are imposing themselves for the county government positions. They said the governors post was not a political position and that it needs some one who is ready to manage the resources for the county well. “It is impossible for politicians to fit into the position of the governor and we as the youths we are not ready to buy endorsed politicians them selves as governors yet we have not accepted them,” said Rop.
