More info: gamblinghelp.nsw.gov.au/ * Research estimates that more than five per cent of all males in NSW are on the problem gambling spectrum. * National research suggests that 83 per cent of problem gamblers never seek professional help of any kind. * While in NSW, of those that do seek help, 1 in 5 wait between 5 and 10 years before reaching out. This is too long. * One of the main reasons people put off seeking help is due to the fear of social stigma, both from the general community but also from their friends, families and colleagues. * The $1.5 million campaign from the Responsible Gambling Fund and the NSW Government – ‘You’re Stronger Than You Think’ – aims to change perceptions surrounding problem gambling, and encourage more people to seek help for their problem sooner.
