You’ve heard about the fragment of an ancient papyrus that quoted Jesus referring to his wife. If it were real, it would rewrite everything we know about the life of Christ. But is it real or a forgery? Experts couldn’t determine that for sure. Carbon dating showed it was written with ancient ink on ancient parchment. But forgers can recreate ancient ink and write on ancient parchment. But now, CNN reports that the mystery has finally been solved. An anonymous source donated the papyrus to Harvard Professor Karen King in 2012 along with other allegedly ancient writings. One of those, a fragment of the Gospel of John, has been determined to be in a language that wasn’t in use at the time it was carbon-dated to. Plus, the lines were found to be copied off a photo on the Internet. So it’s definitely fake. And many experts believe it’s written in the same handwriting, using the same ink and pen, as the “Jesus’ wife” parchment. So unless it was written by Mel Brooks’ 2000-year-old man, they’re both forgeries. It was an interesting mystery, but anyone who was hoping for an updated rewrite of the Bible will just have to wait until the Second Coming. ~ Mike Huckabee
