Yup. Its official. Huck and Bri are officially THE cutest hedgehogs EVER. And before you ask, YES, they are a boy and girl but no, they will not be having babies. Yes, I know how that works, but no they are not housed together, do not play together, are not really much aware of each other. Yes, they sometimes catch of whiff of each other, but no they do not seem too concerned by it (thankfully). So we are a happy, 2-hedgie, hank-panky-free family! And before you ALSO ask, Yes baby hedgies ARE facemeltingly adorable, BUT... 1. Bri R. Patch and Huck Phineas, while both fabulous hedgies, are RESCUES! That means they dont have pedigrees. Having a pedigree isnt about being fancy... its about being to compare them. Check for relatives and ESPECIALLY check for conditions that are passed down genetically (like Wobbly Hedgehog Syndrome.) That is SUPER SUPER important! The hedgies themselves may not show it, but they might carry it in their DNA. Even if they came from a professional breeder, but not with the pedigree, breeders sell both pet contracts and breeding contracts. If they sell a breeding contract they are legally selling a hedgie they believe is fit to breed. But a pet contract may be a good, healthy hedgie who will be a GREAT pet... but may have reasons it should NOT breed. Never breed a hedgie without both pedigrees! 2. Bri is around 1 year old, and has never had babies. On the one hand that is great because #1, but on the other if a female hedgie IS going have babies her 1st litter should be well before she is 1 because her pelvis fuses and having having her 1st litter after that puts her LIFE and the life of the hogglets in DANGER! 1 is still very young, pet wise! She has happy years ahead of her and is by no means old. But she IS past her FIRST breeding time, and luckily, shes had homes who know that, both her 1st mama, Kira, and now me!
