#Zambia: Edgar Lungu Lashes Out at The Post | Zambia Reports: zambiareports/2014/11/19/edgar-lungu-lashes-post/ Patriotic Front Secretary General Edgar Lungu saying The Post Newspapers may not have hired him as their advocate if he was a drunkard. Featuring on popular Hot FM Show Lungu openly declared that he was the rightful heir to Sata’s throne as he was the one given all the key responsibilities. He said that PF has no convention in their constitution but a general conference or extraordinary general conference. Lungu said that if people want to go for a conference the gathering will take place. “When you look at me do you find a drunkard, do you find someone who can fail to work on account of having drunk too much. I have never been fired for drinking. I have never lost my job for anything, I have never been fired anywhere so this is the truth my track record is known,” he said. “In politics people say a lot of things. People said a lot of things about Mr Sata and some of the media houses which now claim that they were his friends and that they will make sure that he is succeeded by a person of nobility.” Lungu angled in on the Post Newspapers albeit subtly: “They are the same people, in fact that particular media house I was representing them in court in a matter in which Mr Sata sued them for defamation actually. They were my clients now if I was so irresponsible surely I would not have been their advocate and this case is documented it is there for people to read it talks about leadership and so on.” He said that he would have made a lot of money if he sued publications that were allegedly defaming. “If I was ordinarily an ordinary citizen I could have taken issue with that and gone to court and would have been awarded so much money but we don’t want to kill criticism of our leaders because it is one of the tenets of democracy,” Lungu said. “I one time complained to Mr Sata on the same newspaper and Mr Sata told me look this newspaper is the only selling at 17:00 hours all the papers have been sold out so what does it tell you? It tells you it has no market so if you engage it you will be giving it credibility and respectability and they will be enjoying you as a source of news because they are looking for news.” He claimed that President Sata had preferred him to succeed him by leaving him to act as President. “Whether it is anointed, chosen, nominated it is a matter of semantics. The reality is I am in whom the man had shown faith in at the time that was me but that does not mean that there are no better people,” he said. “But I am saying given the responsibilities that I had I am better suited to do the job that he had left. There are others who can do it better but we haven’t tried them so we do not want to try them this time around since there will be no supervisor for them.”
