Zenith, Defence Force in Premier spot fight Zenith and Defence Force will lock horns in a winner-take-all clash for a spot in the T&T Volleyball Federation (T&TVF) Men’s Premier Division at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo from 8 pm tonight. Defence Force ended bottom of the Premier Division table last season while Zenith was third in the Championship Division behind winners BIG South East Port-of-Spain (SEPoS) and Southern United Volleyball Academy (SUVA). However, because SEPoS and SUVA already have teams competing in the Premier Division, Zenith, as the highest-ranked team without a Premier club, was granted a spot in the playoff from which the winner will join defending champions SEPoS, Glamorgan, SUVA, Technocrats and Toco Youths in this year’s competition. The Women’s Premier Division will feature champions, Technocrats, SUVA, Glamorgan, University of T&T (UTT), SEPoS and promoted West Side Stars. Stars ended third in last season’s Championship Division, but because the top two teams Glamorgan and SEPoS are already in the top flight, they were promoted as the highest-ranked club. Earlier on today from 1pm at the same venue, the T&TVF serves off its 2014/2016 season from 1 pm today the same venue with a four-a-side opening day co-ed tournament. Teams still wishing to register can do so at $200 per team or contact first vice-president Gideon Dickson at 464-9046. Registration for the Super League is $500 per team and $10 per player, while for the Premier League, the figure is $1,000 per team and $20 per player. Meanwhile, the T&TVF, headed by president Daymian Stewart, has also taken a few new steps forward, most noticeably in re-branding and at the heart of this process is T&TVF’s new logo. Looking ahead Stewart said changes can also be expected within the organisation over the next few days. These changes include letterheads, uniforms, the federation’s Web site, E–newsletter, new partners and events.
