Zille disrespects the memory of deceased Maureen Johnson... by Colin Arendse Today, I had the privilege of being a guest of the ANC at a sitting in the Provincial Legislature where ANC MPL, Lynne Brown debated the undermining of women in the Western Cape. Given the tragic circumstances of the late Maureen Johnson who was allegedly kept against her will/hijacked in a Council fat, fellow ANC MPL, Zodwa Magwaza raised the following specific questions with Premier Zille: 1) After you were alerted to the tragic plight of Maureen Johnson in January 2013, why did you not remove her from her environment and place her under the protection of the High Court? 2) What proof do you have that the couple allegedly looking after Maureen Johnson had legitimate permission to withdraw her pension? 3) After MEC Albert Fritz had interviewed this couple, he averred that there was a legal proxy in place. If this proxy does exist, why did SASSA suspend Maureen Johnson’s pension after Colin Arendse provided certain information to their Fraud Unit? 4) Why has the DA allowed Carlo October and his wife, who are not blood relatives of Maureen Johnson, to take over her Council flat and why has this couple jumped the housing queue given that there are other more needy families who have been on the waiting list for more than 40 years? 5) What does the DA intend doing about Carlo October now that he has refused to move out of the Council flat in Parkwood? Immediately after MPL Magwaza started speaking, MEC Albert Fritz tried to drown out what she was saying by shouting my name, heckling and interjecting. The Speaker repeatedly warned Fritz about his behaviour and then instructed him to apologise for his wild and unsubstantiated allegation that MPL Magwaza was “deliberately misleading the House”. After continuing with his childish behaviour, Fritz received a final warning from the Speaker that he would be thrown out of the House should he continue. Such crass behaviour and total disrespect for a female MPL did not go unnoticed. Premier Zille then took to the stage and in typical DA fashion started raising unrelated issues about the ANC Chairperson’s dress code and the President’s private life; the irony being that MPL Brown’s topic was the “undermining of women in the Western Cape.” I found none of the Premier’s replies of any interest but then, she dropped a clanger. In direct response to MPL Magwaza, Zille stated that “the issue of Maureen Johnson was a massive distortion of the facts which doesn’t warrant the courtesy of a reply”. While MPL Brown was still responding to the Premier, Zille packed her bags and walked out….. The Premier’s arrogant retort has strengthened my resolve to prove that the DA has lied to the public about the correct facts surrounding Maureen Johnson. When I received news of her death on my birthday, I made a solemn promise not to rest and to use every bone in my body to ensure that justice takes its course….. SIES Helen Zille and Albert Fritz
