Zimmerman case; I can’t say I am surprised, but I also can’t - TopicsExpress

Zimmerman case; I can’t say I am surprised, but I also can’t say I agree or disagree. I was not there and I know not what the motives were. What I think saddens me the most, aside from a boy being shot, is the knee jerk reaction that in sued on this subject. When I first heard about this I heard a kid in a hoody got shot, which is horrible but I figured it was an accident, as I remember a story of a father killing his son like that. The fact that he was black was irrelevant to me, at night with face concealed, easy to have bad things happen, right or wrong. But what did I see in my country, a divided nation pointed fingers first at Mr. Zimmerman, but then each other. Mr. Zimmerman is not a murder because he was not convicted of murder, killer yes, but so are many or us that have killed in a way our government says is lawful, or needed in the case of military and law enforcement. The sad thing is that many will hunt him down and seek him out, though they are low and petty and are the true criminals, with intent. So here is the question I want you to ask yourself; Did you think he was innocent because he is white or guilty because Trayvon was black? Did that every play a factor in your decision? If so this is what is a wrench in our country’s gears. We are at war with terrorism, but we still look to own neighbors for our enemies, based on the choices of our ancestors. We let the color of our skin and the homes of our ancestors dictate how we relate. We are quick to label racism without full context, but I think many of you will not have to look very far to find it, it may be in the mirror. Was this a hate crime? A jury, with only one white one, says no (not that their color should matter). I am an American, and so is Mr. Zimmerman, and so was Trayvon. A year ago an American killed a 17 year old fellow American, and he was found not guilty, and though it is a tragedy it is not my job to judge nor am I trained to. When I fill out a form and the only thing it asks me is my nationality not the color of my skin, or the location of my ancestors birth, then I will know we are United. When I am not called a racist at a Gas station because I am a Republican (true story) , then we will be United. When a crime of different ethnicites occurred and it is found to because of racism, and as a nation we are shocked then we will be United…until then we are the Divide People of America…DPA. I still defend you until you are the USA again.
