_/\_ !!! HAPPY DIWALI !!! _/\_ For those who asked me and wanted to know about DIWALI aka DEEPAVALI. Diwali (name used in North India) aka Deepavali (name used in South India) - festival of lights. The festival spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, good over evil, and hope over despair, although the actual `origin` of the festival are different in different parts of India: > In northern India and elsewhere, Diwali celebrates Ramas return from fourteen years of exile to Ayodhya after the defeat of Ravana and his subsequent coronation as king; > In Gujarat, the festival honours Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth; > In Nepal Diwali commemorates the victory of Lord Krishna over the demon king Narakaasura; > In Bengal, it is associated with the goddess Kali. Diwali celebrates the return of Rama and Sita, in the story from the Ramayana. The story shows how good wins over evil. Here is a brief outline of the story: https://youtube/watch?v=eCrvOKOp0oA Prince Rama and his wife, Sita, are banished from their home in Ayodhya by their father the King. Ramas brother, Lakshmana, goes with them to live in a forest. They are banished for fourteen years. After many happy years, Sita is kidnapped by the ten-headed demon Ravana. He takes Sita to his island of Lanka. With the help of the monkey warrior, Hanuman, Rama rescues his wife. The people of Ayodhya light divas (oil lamps) in rows to guide Rama and Sita back from the forest to Ayodhya. On their return Rama is crowned king. FIVE DAYS OF DIWALI 1. Dhanteras - Goddess Laxmi is worshiped to provide prosperity and well being. Hence Dhan Teras holds a lot more significance for the business community. 2. Choti Diwali - involve a ritual puja to Goddess Lakshmi and also to Rama in the evening. 3. Lakshmi Puja on Diwali - main day of DIWALI & ritual to Goddess Lakshmi. 4. Padwa & Govardhan Puja - is symbolic of love and devotion between the wife and husband. On this day newly-married daughters with their husbands are invited for special meals and given presents. 5. Bhai Duj - Sisters perform puja for their brothers safety and well being. Brothers in return give gifts to their sisters as a token of love. * want to know more? visit diwalifestival.org/diwali-meaning-significance.html * credit : diwalifestival.org/diwali-meaning-significance.html Wish u and your family a very happy diwali & prosperous ( hindu ) new year.
