__________________________________________________________ TO : Student Populace From : CSRC 2014/15 Subject : Registration fees stance Date : 13 December 2014 __________________________________________________________ ‘’capitalism has no soul and it will stop at nothing to exploit the poorest of the poor’’ Receive our heartfelt revolutionary greetings The CSRC has noted with disappointment an increment of fees by the council as the highest decision making body in the north west university without consultation of the ISRC as the highest body in student governance in the institution and that of the CSRC as the highest body in student governance as far as campuses are concerned, this decision to increase the fees took place after the ISRC rejected a proposal by the council to increase the fees. The delegation at the ISRC led by president Tutu Kgobane, Deputy President Maxwell Dyasi, Public Relation Officer Karabo Kau and the Residence Officer Motlalepula Tlhabetsane rejected the proposal on the basis that the proposal does not represent the views of majority being sons and daughters of the working class and further stated that the proposal on its own is a direct root to exclusion of our students as we cannot afford to pay such an amount. As the C of Mafikeng Campus as resolute as we are we did engage management at the institutional office and requested to be allowed to make our own proposal to the council of which we made a clarion call during our last mass-meeting to student populace to touch based on the issue of fee increment of which the populace reflected positively on it, after the mass-meeting the CSRC set in a constitutional meeting and resolved that we stand resolute in rejection of the proposal which thus far have not yet got any fed back except an imposed increment proposal and the following points were made: i. The council cannot increase the fees while the is still an approximate amount of R10 million missing without trace. ii. Proper channels were not followed as student views were not taken into consideration through their representatives( CSRC) iii. Fees are increased and yet we see no developments taking place in terms of infrastructure except for POTCH-campus iv. Fees may be increased by 6.5% and this is after a thorough analysis was made in as far as inflation rate is concerned A step by the council to proceed with the increment while rejected by the student leadership is a clear sign that the views of students are compromised by the same council that its composition does not reflect the transformation agenda, transformation cannot be a debated issue in this current democratic dispensation and that it would not be correct to allow counter-revolutionaries, demagogues who are reactionary in nature to dominate and conclude without contestation hence we believe that a contest of ideas in any revolutionary course is necessary than an artificial unity of purpose and seek to dismiss the ideological analogy that says’’ The ideas of the ruling class will enjoy dominance’’ not in our life time. We remain resolute that the council must be dissolved as it is full of counter-revolutionaries whose aim is to generate income by exploiting the poorest of the poor the working class off-springs and nothing more, it is the same council that derails the transformation agenda in the north west university and seek to uphold the merger of three campuses as an achievement that we as students of the north west university do not see its significance hence we are also calling for the de-merger of the three campuses. It is KARL MARX who captured it correct when saying’’ men make their own history, but they do not make it as they please; they do not make it under self-selected circumstances, but under circumstances existing already, given and transmitted from the past.’’ As the CSRC 2014/15 we edge student populace, political formations to join in hands with us as we move with the motion of boycotting registration processes particularly at the institutional office at Potchefstroom campus in January as it must be noted that we are going to render the institution ungovernable, We also dismiss the notion that we must seek funding from NSFAS knowing very well that NSFAS is reactionary in nature with the declaration of nothing for us without us, this time the revolution is real. ‘’ students united shall not be defeated as we have nothing to lose but our Chains.’’ ___________________________ Yours in Student Governance CSRC 2014/15
