a couple of points: 1) the young moslem woman was not making a commercial about Islam in particular, she was getting at the fact that conservative US-based ideological groups such as the Heritage Foundation (a misnomer if I ever heard one) use Christianity as their excuse for intolerant views and political efforts to subvert cultural emphases upon diversity. She chose not to make that flat statement, but she should have been more direct. The interpretation of this subtle approach as a frontal assault upon those rigid ideological values as political correctness rather flies in the face of my tolerance of YOUR right-wing ideology. If you do not tolerate HERS, why should I tolerate YOURS? 2) you can bring up all of the statistics you want about who did what to whom in World War II but history goes longer than that. Christians do not exactly have a gleaming record with respect to harsh treatment of minorities either. The most obvious examples of that are the troubles in Northern Ireland for twenty-odd years ending in about 1985, the Lutheran and Catholic majorities among the Nazi sympathizers (and refusal of the Vatican to speak against the slaughter of six million jews) as recent examples, beginning during the pre-World-War II days and continuing in the Soviet Block until about 1995. Dont get me started about the cruel treatment of GLBT people at the hands of African Christians that continues as we speak. Your prophet Yeshua (Jesus) would deplore this. Before you go on about the excesses of Islamic fundamentalists, remember that Christian fundamentalists practiced slavery and witch hunts in the nascent USA, and undertook the Inquisition and Crusades and endless murder and mayhem against non-Christians and Byzantines alike, in Europe and Asia Minor the middle ages. If you judge Islam by rigid cultural standards, hold your own faith history to the same measure.
