a dads daily devotional March 7, 2014 No breakfast... I keep a Bible on the love seat recliner in the living room. This is the Bible I read each morning during my quiet time. This morning as I went to sit down for my quiet time, I noticed the Bible was missing. I wondered if a Bible thief had been in our home. Why would anyone move my Bible? Then I thunked (spelled correctly), “Karen probably moved it and hid it because I was becoming too spiritual.” Not really. Yesterday Stacy left her dog at our house while she and Karen went to Little Rock. I found the Bible on the kitchen table where Karen probably put it so the dog would not mess it up. What a sweet wife I have. Now to get back on track with the devo. My morning quiet time is like spiritual breakfast. It provides spiritual nourishment to start my day. If I had not been able to read the Bible and spend time with the Lord, I would have felt empty all day. Jesus referred to Himself as the “bread of life.” As Christians, it is essential that we spend a dedicated quiet time with Jesus each day and then walk with Him throughout the day. If you don’t spend time with Christ and His word, you will become spiritually malnourished. You will become more susceptible to the attacks of the enemy. Your family will be at risk of spiritual defeat. Which will put your church at risk of spiritual defeat. Which will put our nation at risk of spiritual defeat. Humm…. Maybe the revival our nation needs can begin simply with believers having spiritual breakfast each morning. John 6:32-35 Jesus then said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the true bread out of heaven. (33) For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world. (34) Then they said to Him, Lord, always give us this bread. (35) Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst. John 6:48-51 I am the bread of life. (49) Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. (50) This is the bread which comes down out of heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. (51) I am the living bread that came down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread also which I will give for the life of the world is My flesh. Love, Dad (Brother Tom)
