about the tutor -SELINA SCERRI On arriving back to her homeland in 2010, Selina (b.1980) has already established herself as an artist that is quickly establishing grounds for success. Being chosen to participate in the exhibition New Generation hosted by Malta Contemporary Art Foundation in January 2010 already had her at a position with a lot to show. Ten of the best emerging artists had been chosen to participate. Her success , however, was seen long before. In 2003, Janatha Stubbs awarded her with a bursary to pursue her studies in BA (hons) Fine Arts at Central Saint Martin’s College, London, where she graduated in 2007. Central St Marti’s College holds an international reputation of being one of the world’s leading arts and design institutions, producing some very well known names. Amongst them are the painter Victor Pasmore (d. 1998), musician Pj Harvey, fashion designer Alexander McQueen (d. 2010), singer Sade Adu and actor Colin Firth. Following her graduation in 2007, Selina based herself in London where she worked as an artist for two years under a contract with Salon Gallery, now Salon Contemporary, as well as with many different galleries and worked on varied projects for charity, usually involving children and the disabled. She has exhibited in London and a few other cities in Italy. Following her arrival in Malta in 2010, she also ventured in continuing her studies, whilst also travelling to Madrid and Rome for inspiration. Her work is a celebration of being human, and pursues a creative force that is limitless: the pallette and subjects evoke a dream-like freedom. Encouraging positivity, love and kindness, her visuals are something of another world of femininity and adventure. Selina is currently managing the BLACKMANS STUDIO project , a new Art Centre in Valletta selinascerri
