am Guo Pei, a haute couture designer in China. Im so proud to have my first Chinese Bride flagship store in Waitan, a tract of land along the banks of the Huangpu River in Shanghai. It is my goal to fulfill a thousand dreams for a thousand ordinary brides. When I graduated in 1986, most Chinese didnt know the concept of haute couture. But I had strong enthusiasm for fashion, and felt I could tell stories through my every design. Thats what motivates me to constantly challenge myself to come up with original designs that stand out. Each dress emerges out of my imagination -- precise, elegant, and one of a kind. For example, during Asian Fashion Week in Singapore, Chinese features such as embroidery where highlights of my creations. I perpetually pursue the perfect combination of oriental flavor and cutting-edge Western styles. Are you familiar with this dress? Yes, the pattern is the well-known Qinghuaci, which means blue and white porcelain. It s the same one worn by the famous actress Fan Bingbing in Times Square in New York. Besides, it felt so good to see my design at key historical moments. The closing ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics saw a duet between Chinese singer Song Zuying and world famous tenor Placido Domingo. The long robe I designed added glamour to the event. Inspired by Chinas rich legacy, I often seek inspiration from oriental floral designs, dragons and Tibetan mythology. In my flagship bridal store, almost every creation required thousands of hours to complete. But my deepest joy and satisfaction comes from designing for everyday people, because its likely my dress will be worn at a once in a lifetime event. Its not just the ceremony, but the memories created for generations of family members. Authentic haute couture is eternal, enduring the test of time.
