and here is that shift we complain about with this generation. rolling our eyes and wondering how they became so self-centered. parents enable it and then wonder why they are such ungrateful little snits. everything is about them. if it isnt about them, it isnt worth doing. the graduation speech has typically been a motivational speech. a contemplation on this transition. a way of moving between spaces. ideas for creating a roadmap for your life. but, now, its all about the child and what spectacular thing the child has done. forgive me, I know it is a big deal for many people. but, since when has graduating from high school become such a thing of miraculous importance that it outshines listening to an elder tell you a few thing to jumpstart the rest of your life? the way these parents and children are acting makes it seem like these kids have gotten an Ivy PhD, on full scholarship and placement with a Fortune 500. please...they are graduating from *high school.* they complied with the law and showed up for compulsory education. oh, it should be *all* about them. please... okay - Im done now. we know what it is *really* about.
