apheda.org.au/news/1383274841_9017.html Canberra Free Public Talk with Dr Cynthia Maung | Tues 12 Nov, 5.30pm 01 November 2013 We are very proud to invite you to a free public talk in Canberra featuring this years Sydney Peace Prize winner - Dr Cynthia Maung, founder of the Mae Tao Clinic and a longtime partner of Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA. This is an critical time for refugees from Burma. Dr Cynthia will be in Canberra to try to change the Australian governments decision to stop funding for the Mae Tao Clinic. A decision that will prevent many communities in need - refugees, unemployed workers, poor farmers, and migrant workers - from accessing essential health care, including maternal health, eye care, prosthetics for land mine victims, child health, vaccinations, HIV services and counselling and the training of medics. At the talk, Dr Cynthia will be joined by other community leaders from Burma to speak about the current and future situation faced by Burmese refugees living on the Thai Burma Border. This will be Dr Cynthias only public event in Canberra! Please come along and show your support.
