bible.org June 7th Ps 54-55 “Word to the Hurting” Today as we ponder the words of King David we can empathize and relate. This post today is for those out there who have hurting hearts. Our prayers surround you and our loving Lord is embracing you. King David relates his heart. He feels abandoned by someone who was closest to him. Who is this person or persons who have caused him such heart pain? Ps 55:12 tells us it was one of the king’s closest and most intimate of friends. To show how close they were King David says: my close friend in whom I confided, we would share personal thoughts with each other, we would walk together in the holy temple of God. OUCH! We can relate! Some of you reading have been injured in your heart by someone you considered your most exclusive of friends, perhaps a mate has abandoned you, perhaps a friend that was your friend has suddenly without cause has become your enemy, perhaps a Pastor is hurting. Each of us faces this at some time in our life. Humanly speaking we want vindication for we feel we are the victim. In our humanness we might turn to talebearing to another, we might become angry, we might sink into the pity party mode. Is this the biblical model? Let’s see. It is in times like this that we need to do as King David and Jesus did when feelings of bereft, unloved, bereaved, grief-stricken come close to our hearts. Listen to what is said: 54:1 Tell God: vindicate me by the power in your Name 54:4: Recognize that friends may desert you but God is always by your side and He alone is your deliverer 55:2-5/16/22 Share/call out in your pain in prayer, pour out your heart to Him and cast the problem into His hands. 55:19 Know the truth of this verse: God hears and He will humiliate them—it may not be now but it will happen. Cling to that promise. Now turning to the NT reflect upon this verse: 1Pet 2:23 When he was maligned, he did not answer back; when he suffered, he threatened no retaliation, but committed himself to God who judges justly. May God be with you this day and hear your heart. May we pray for you in this time?
