busybusy engineers feature prominently in innovative app programing competition After 24 hours of intense programming and a lot of caffeine, CodeCamp2014 concluded Saturday morning. This year there were over 250 participants, making it the largest turnout since the event began a few years ago. Software engineers from busybusy have been involved since the event was founded, and we’re now a proud gold sponsor. Brad Campbell, our Director of Engineering, chairs the CodeCamp Board and figured prominently throughout. He was roaming the main hall as a ‘Code Mentor’, and was interviewed on TV a couple of times, once for the local Fox News affiliate. (On Fox 13, see Brad’s segment at 1:13 in the video. In the St. George News clip, he’s at 1:55). He also gave part of the concluding presentation. For participants, the challenge was to design and program a viable mobile or web-based app within 24 hours. Teams of 1 to 4 people competed in four divisions; Rookie, Novice, Collegiate and Pro/Industry. Most of the teams were made up of college and high school students, but quite a few were also from Utah-based tech companies. A few programmers also came from further away, including a Pro team from Mexico. At the end, the projects were judged by an expert panel on the basis of completeness, aesthetics, technical expertise and innovation. For the Pro/Industry category, they were also judged on commercial viability. Several busybusy engineers and designers, Drew Calder, Simon Bergeron, Chad Olsen, Li Kane and Kraig Wastlund formed the “Rich Fat Kids” team, creating “InnKeeper” as a mobile solution for hotel guests. Out of about 15-20 Pro teams, they won 3rd place in the Pro division. More about InnKeeper… Another part of the busybusy crew, Kaden Wilkinson, was Team Lead for one of the Collegiate teams. His crew came up with a nifty little shopping app called “I Want That”. See Kaden’s description below the photos. “We went in with ten different ideas and ended up with a christmas shopping organizer. We pulled data from from retailers like BestBuy so you could add products to your wish-list from multiple stores without having to leave the website. We had a login with Facebook so we could pull your friends list and then could see your friends wish lists for christmas and add items to your christmas shopping list. In a way its like a registry but for multiple stores in one instead of having to have wish lists at every store.” Share with Friends The post Mobile app programming competition supported by busybusy appeared first on busybusy blog.
