Marcos Carrion, 36, is charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine. Appearing before a federal judge, he pled not guilty. He maintains his innocence and is looking forward to his day in court, said defense attorney Jeffry Greco. According to the Houston Police Department, Carrion worked from 2009 until he quit in February 2014. He was assigned to the Gessner South Patrol. Investigators say the case involves cocaine being shipped from 2013 to April 2014. Neighbors in Carrions Sugarland neighborhood say theyve had some run-ins with the former police officer. Well it was kind of like, Im a lawman, I could do whatever I want, said Eve Petty, who got into an argument with Carrion over his kids using noisy go-carts. I told him, I think its against the law for you to be doing that. He said, Well, Im a police officer. Other neighbors say Carrions home had a history of drug activity, even before he moved in. They were initially pleased a policeman was coming to the neighborhood. Carrion was released on a $50,000 bond. The judge ordered him to wear an ankle monitor, remain within the greater Houston area and stay from people involved in the case. Prosecutors say a witness in the case was recently shot and they are concerned for their safety. Carrion is not a suspect in the shooting.
