chapter 2 A Different Decision “ Where... am I..,” Cinera blinked as her eyes slowly came into focus. She tired to move but soon came to realize that her arms and legs were chained down to the wall. She struggled to break herself free, attempting to use a fire spell to burn off the chains. “Ineras!,” She winced as the chains seemed to absorb the heat. “ That was a dumb move... burning the chains your very soul is bound to” “ My what!?,” She squinted her eyes, trying to see who it was she was speaking too. “ You heard me,” Leon stepped out from the darkness of the chamber and smiled as he stood before her, his long gray cloak masking all but his devilishly tempting red eyes. He glared at her and smirked. “ You seem to like causing trouble, so I though lets find out just what makes you tick. Those chains are called soul chains, they slowly separate your body and you soul, storing the soul within the chains for me to read later, but don’t worry I will return it to you...maybe” “ You sick...freak!,” Cinera growled as she felt her body grow slightly cold “ what’s happening...” “ It’s begun,” Leon smiled as he placed a hand on her stomach and closed his eyes. Focusing his shadow spell not on her body but on her soul, he slowly pulled out what looked like an exact copy of her except clear... ghost like almost. Indeed what he had removed was the essence of her soul, her very spirit. “ Now... just what makes you tick hm?,” He grinned as he motioned to place a hand on the souls forehead, before he could the door to the chamber was kicked open in a loud bang. “ Put... the soul... back... NOW!,” Krysta growled as she walked slowly up to Leon, her eyes red with anger. “ My what a surprise, if it isn’t little miss attitude. Why the sudden intrusion hm? Come to see what makes your little friend such an annoyance as well?” “ No I came to set her free you sick twisted molester!,” Krysta growled with rage as she stormed into the room. “ Molester? I’m shocked... I haven’t touched anything more then her soul... nothing important really,” he laughed slightly as he pushed the tired looking soul back into her body, Cinera’s eyes slowly starting to open. “ Kry.... Krysta?... is... that you?,” Cinera muttered, still half asleep. “ Cinny! Hold on,” Krysta ran at Leon pushing him against the wall and moving close to his face. “ Listen you... if you EVER try to harm her like that again I swear.. I’ll kill you myself” “ Is that a fact little one?,” he smiled running a nail along the side of her neck, causing a slight shiver to pass though her. “ Ye... yes.. Damn you! Hands off!,” she pushed his hand away and quickly untied the now unconscious Cinera. “ I’ve got you. Come on, let’s get out of here..,” Krysta sighed as she fixed Cinera so that she rested safely on her back as she started to walk to the door she stopped for a second and looked to Leon. “ You know... for an egotistical bastard you’re not too bad with you fingers” “ Heh so much for you to learn little one, so much,” He smirked as he watched the two of them leave, a slight gleam in his eye. Krysta sighed as she set Cinera against the wall just outside the dining hall. She looked around her body for any scars, feeling rather relieved she didn’t find any . “ Why the worried look Krysty?,” Cinera blinked in confusion. “ I was just scared that you would get hurt down there..,” Krysta sighed, running a hand over her friends face. It was rare for her to show pity to anyone, but she always seemed to care for Cinera. “ No.. I feel ok I was just scared, I don’t like that place much it’s creepy...” “ Yeah... not a very happy place for someone like you,” Krysta sighed and looked over at the door to the dining hall. “ Hey can you stand?” Cinera stood up slowly and nodded as she leaned against the wall for support “ Yeah I’m alright... well I guess this is where we split up huh?” “ Sadly yeah.. Hey hope ya make it into yellow raven this year, it’s a good chance to try and get the hang of that spell” “ Thanks, although your in a tough spot this year. Madame Levera is the blue dragon leader, Lord Tobera the shadow fox, and both of those are your highest chances.,” A warm smiled brushed across her face, followed by her usual giggle. “ Not to mention that bastard Garth,” Krysta growled under her breath, rolling her eyes slowly. “ I’m sorry did I just hear my name?,” As if on cue Garth revealed himself from the far end of the hall. “ I thought the air smelled a bit funny,” Krysta grinned as she looked toward him. “ I suppose it means you should try actually washing for once then?,” Garth smiled slightly as he made his way into the dining hall. “ Krysty can I please kill him?,” Cinera whispered softly. Krysta blinked and watched him walk though the door “ Oddly no... I kinda wanna see what he is made of, wait a while first ok?,” She watched with, a glare of interest in her eyes. “ Okay! Well I’m gonna head in see ya after the assigning,” The cheery vampire jumped into her friends arms, hugging her tightly and laughing. “ See you,” The two smiled as they made their way in and split up on two opposite sides of the room. Krysta stopped for a moment and looked around the enormous room. The walls were painted in a dark ominous purple decorated by flickering candles hung within the hands of each of the houses symbolic creatures. The oddest sight in the entire room would have to be the four sections for each of the houses. The yellow ravens most of all. Along their side on the far right was a dark yellow coloring that seemed to scream”look at me!,” on the ground. Below their table the symbol of the yellow raven was being painted by some of the second and third year students who often came back during assigning just to watch. To the left of the ravens came their equally chipper counterparts the phoenixes. Their section was painted in orange flames, but to Krysta’s annoyance not a dark orange which would better the idea of a fire house, but a rather happy and bright orange to show the joyous side of a flame. “ They make me sick...,” Krysta muttered as she turned her attention to her two favorite houses, feeling bit giddy on the inside to see how they decorated themself’s this year. Fail her they did not. The blue dragons had their table as always set in the center of the room. Decorated in a dark ocean blue and just to add a touch of creativity the head Mistress even decided to engrave her name at the center of the eyes of the dragon that was hidden within the wave design on the ground. “ Some people never change...,” she muttered as she looked over to the last house left. The shadow foxes. Ah yes the ever silent yet always deadly shadow foxes had made their statement clear. Stay on your own side! Their floor panted in pure black and thanks to Lord Tobera, actually had a living flame within the floor itself. How he did it is still a mystery, but it was rumored anyone who set foot on that flame who Leon disliked would be burned to death slowly and made to be watched by all who wished to see the true power of a shadow foxes wrath. At the head of the room stood a large statue of a dragon claw, in the center of the claw a crystal of pure sliver. It seemed to give off a slight warmth as it radiated energy around itself. Krysta simply sighed and made herself comfortable leaning against the door to the dinning hall, looking over she saw a few faces she knew. She spotted an old friend named Lucia over by the Ravens. Lucia was the kind of girl you would see in the Phoenix house, seeing as she was always so happy. And then there was probably the only boy in the whole school she could actually stand. A quick witted, dark and slightly twisted boy by the name of Zadi. Though she never made an effort to actually speak with him Krysta knew him quite well, in a way she had kinda crushed over him when she first came to the school so long ago, but things changed over the years, at least she liked to think they had. The head Mistress took her place beside the large crystal and smiled raising her right hand in the air and letting small blue flames flicker from her black nails. This was merely a way to gather the attention of the many chattering students. “ Welcome children of the shadows, to yet another glorious year in the School Of Shadow Arts. We have gathered you all here today to decided what paths each of you shall take in your lives as future master of the art of spell casting. The process is simple and painful, each of you shall step forth when called and offer a sample of blood to the dragons tear. The tear shall then change it’s color as it reflects on your soul, the color it changes shall decided your house. Enough with the preparations, Cinera Rose! Please step forward!” Krysta watched her best friend shyly make her way up to the head mistress, even from the far end of the room she could spot the look of fear in the poor girls eyes. Cinera looked at the crystal timidly, then up at the head mistress. “ Do I have to...?,” she looked a bit sad and nervous. “ You know the rules,” Leveria simply looked at the girl and held up her left pointer finger, slowly cutting a small opening with her nail and dripping the blood over the crystal. The room suddenly grew dark as the crystal began to emit a voice though out the room. “ Free spirited... often shy. Bit of a trouble maker due to a short attention span.... a perfect Raven!,” Cinera sighed and smiled as she held on to her finger and looked over at Krysta happily. She then made her way over to her table and sat alone at the moment at the empty table. “ Next... Zadi Shouten, please come forward.,” From the corners of the right side of the room stepped a rather tall young man. His face hidden behind a long black cloak and his dark green eyes stayed low to the ground as he made his way up to the head mistress. He sighed biting into his finger and ripping off the skin as he held it over the crystal and waited. “ My, my. Quite the impatient one,” grinned Leon as he watched. The crystal began to speak yet again. “ Tormented young soul, dark nature.. A loner of sorts... Not even the head mistress herself was this much a problem child........... I call Shadow fox!,” Zadi grinned and simply made his way over to the foxes table, as his foot touched the flame it seemed as though the flame itself began to die down a bit, this odd sight caught Krysta’s eye easily. “ No way he’s that strong..,” She muttered softly. “ Garth Vipera please...,” before she could finish he was already awaiting his assignment. Krysta growled and watched. “ Hmm a rather arrogant approach to things. Well studied in advanced spells yet lacking in team working skills............. I call this child a Fox child!” Krysta grinned as Garth made his way down from the alter, she noticed Leon’s eyes were watching her the whole time, a look to his lips and to her surprise on them was a smile, he actually smiled and Krysta soon knew why, she was up next.” As she made her way up to the alter she looked at the head Mistress for a moment and laughed before she slowly cut her own finger against the tip of the crystal and watched as it began to darken the room. Although this time it was a little different. Rater then the room just go dark it also got cold. A large gust of wind blew open the doors to the hall as she stood still and waited. “ Your... a Luna? Ahhh interesting, quite the interesting history.... half of your family resents you, the other half welcomes you... your father you haven’t see since childhood and your mother is....” “ Enough!,” Krysta shouted as she surrounded herself in a wall of fire “ Just move on before I lose it!,” The entire room was silent with fear, only Leon and Madame Leveria looked on with interest as they waited the finial judgement.
