cloud nine vs eg at semifinals on the recent monster energy invitational SXSW. https://youtube/watch?v=3bhSYDlsIr8 cloud nine: picks: ember, aa, luna, IO, magnus bans: naga, nyx, bane, dazzle, np eg: picks: doom, cm, lion, od, ds bans: visage, bat, nig, earthshaker, bh highlights: 13:45 - both beams begin early game 5man roam attempting to pickoff. io teeters ember for MS and ember levels searing chains to initiate. aa levels chilling touch to provide early dps for the first clash. 14:07 - interesting ward placement by cloudnine to provide vision on the bottom rune and block the big camp on radiant side. 14:16 - ember manages to catch a trailing CM just at the tip of the searing chains AOE, but lion counter-initiates with a impale near the tower forcing cloudnine to retreat. 15:31 - interesting but effective dual lane by luna + wisp at bottom, completely destroying the doom farm and lion has very little power to stop it. wisp with the teeter allows mana and hp regen on luna allowing her to spam her nuke and the spirits provides vision and decent nuke damage. wisp also with high MS and good attack animation continues to poke both doom and lion. 15:44 - aggressive jungling by egs CM waiting to snipe off the courier in the mid (knowing that magnus has to bottow crawl vs OD). 16:16 - you can see CM on the minimap walking to snipe off the courier as she sees magnus bottling up 16:24 - courier snipe by CM. HUGE play considering the empty bottle was in it. 17:16 - very good attempt by DS at picking off ember but unable to find a kill. both runs away with minimal health. 17:36 - continuous pressure from wisp/luna on lion/doom. wisp/luna must not be underestimated as a bad position would result in imminent death from luna nuke + wisp nuke + easy chase with high ms from luna and wisp due to natural ms from luna and teeter. doom currently at 4 cs only depite being already 3mins into the game. on the contrary, luna sitting on 16 cs. 18:30 - CM makes her presence felt in the bot lane with a good rotation and gank but luna manages to kill lion first for the FB. wisp however goes down. 18:37 - luna trying to secure a second kill on the CM but good body block by doom prevents it. 19:37 - rotation to top again by the very active CM but unfortunately fails to find a kill there. item of choice is early boots and smoke for faster ganks. note - cm is playing as a roaming ganker not a lane support. 20:06 - initiation by OD knowing lion is coming to back him up. excellent timing as OD also has an illu rune to provide extra dps. manages to snag an easy kill on magnus. magnus unable to even skewer away due to no mana. 20:41 - top pickoff on ds. coldfeet + searing chains + chilling touch = death. ember build at lvl5 is 3 levels searing, 2 levels selight of first. no flameguard. item choice is phase + stout. ember had high regen early (8 tangoes + 1 salve). aa at lvl4 is 2 coldfeet 2 chilling touch. item is 3 branches. with this build ember relies heavily on landing his searing chains. 21:17 - rotation by wisp to the middle to attempt a pickoff but fails. wisp at lvl4 build - 1 teeter, 2 spirits, 1 overcharge. items is boots + rop. 21:18 - counter initiation by ds/cm and pickoff by ember on CM with same combo: coldfeet, chill, searing chains. 21:21 - wisp sees fight and ports in providing MS to ember to catch the fleeing ds. insufficient mana for chains allows ds to get away. 22:02 - after gaining sufficient levels, doom rotates into jungle to allow lion to gain some solo xp on bot lane. 23:00 - od manages to get an 8min midas despite getting bottle and boots before that. 23:11 - doom picks off luna easily with the help of cm + lion in bot lane. 23:19 - IO with haste decides hes invincible and dives straight into lion/cm/doom and instantly gets blown up by a chasing OD. bad mistake. 24:20 - midgame strategy check: despite the seemingly better aggressive nature of a roaming cm with courier pickoffs and ganks, cloudnine is still ahead with the standard 2-1-2 lanes. this is because for the CM roam to work, she has to clock quite a bit of kills to make up for the lack of laning/jungling. also, despite the aggressive nature of the wisp/luna lane, doom is able to catch up with farm due to devour. however, the lane should be still considered a massive success as 1) its an offlane for luna 2) it muted dooms farm 3) luna has a ton of farm as well 24:26 - cm + lion rotates for a smoke gank on top. good call as they both have a ridiculous number of disables between them and a high burst from lion. they can easily take on two heroes and kill both. 24:47 - good spider sense by AA who hides in the secret shop then backs off to the tower upon seeing missing heroes on the minimap. 25:12 - interesting choice of ward placement at top lane. doesnt block the camps but it does provide vision for antigank. 25:18 - doom continuing to farm the jungle with max devour. has his doom up so will be looking to find a kill soon. 25:51 - lion ports in bot and cm trailing in the jungle in attempt to put pressure on the wisp/luna/ember and safely deny the tower. 25:55 - premature doom on wisp to secure the tower deny. excellent play. 26:54 - ember finds ds in the jungle and initiates with sleight into searing chains. ds immediately tps knowing the stun has already been used. ds returns home safely. excellent reaction by ds. 27:17 - easy pickoff on the lion by wisp/luna, showing the power of the raw ms/as provided by the teeter. later finds doom but unable to pick him off due to high hp. 28:10 - aa still taking solo farm on top rushing for his midas after tranquil. meanwhile ember is roaming attempting to find pickoffs. 28:30 - cloudnine completely warding the radiant jungle synergizing with their midgame aggressive strategy - observe from lineup - wisp, luna, ember, and aa for global backup at any point. 29:10 - midgame clash. ember attempts to initiate with sleight + searing but gets the creeps instead. magnus skewers in attempting to rp but fast reaction from lion hexes and OD follows up with astrial. AA ult goes in from top and hits all doing massive damage and allowing cloudnine to pickoff fleeting heroes. 30:30 - midgame strategy check: cloudnine seems to be going for a more mobile strategy with luna on drums, io with teeter and relocate, magnus with blink and ember with his ult. eg recognizes this and attempts to catch up with force staff on OD and blink on doom. 30:50 - smoke up on eg again to pressure top tower and again great spider sense by AA. 31:06 - solo port in by luna with magnus walk behind. doom surprises with the newly minted blink dagger and gets a doom off luna before she can do anything. doom however has to back off upon seeing wisp and ember relocate in. suddenly it becomes a full 5 man clash instead of a 3v5 tower attempt. OD throws a big ult melting a few heroes and the heroes spread out to evade a massive RP. however, lunas ult is now online due to the doom and melts the remaining heroes cleaning up nearly the whole team. victory to cloudnine. strategy in hindsight - VERY good port bait by luna and doom took it. both scenarios eg wouldve lost - if doom went solo like he did, luna wouldve simply got away n survived the doom. if his team went in with doom, magnus was sitting behind ready to RP and AA would ult to clean up. 33:05 - it seems AA decided to rush an aghs instead of midas. i wouldve gone midas... lol. but the fast aghs synergizes better with the overall strategy of cloudnine which is the midgame mobility and pickoff. 36:16 - midgame strategy check: counterpickoff at top then rotating to bot again further shows how broken the mobility strat is by cloudnine. the situation they bought themselves is highly advantageous - if there are any solo or dual enemies, wisp + anyone would easily pick them off with the help of AA global. if they decide to stick to a 5man teamfight, magnus, AA and luna would ensure an easy victory. EG is in a very very bad situation right now. 38:01 - AA catches the rosh attempt and punishes them easily with his ult. the rest of the team swiftly moves in for the cleanup. game is pretty much over for EG at this point. 40:43 - jesus christ look how ridiculously mobile the whole team is. they see doom trying to take off their last tier 1. mag ports in. doom blinks out. mag blinks after. wisp ports in with luna. mag catches doom and ults. doom is dead. ds comes in late but is able to land a perfect wall. however ember arrives swiftly thanks to his ult and stuns ds with selight into chains again. GAME IS SO OVER. Im done with the commentary. result should be obvious. good game to watch for both sides - the few strongest learning points: how to play a roaming CM, how to play a wisp/luna lane, how to play a midgame mobility strategy and how to draft a team that punishes both solo/dual heroes AND 5man.
