cmon now, what about Ms. Clayton? I sent my appreciation direct by spying around Iris Fairfaxs FB a few years ago... - We been waitin for so long (our 8th grade graduation song w/new words by Valerie Clayton) to tell Ms. Clayton how much we loved her... well, I had. She was passionate about all music. At the classical end: I remember she was introducing us to some piece, and Lisa Dixon (where is she?) raised her hand and said: Ms. Clayton, we black kids dont like classical music (...I remember thinking oh yea, us white kids are all about classical music (?) and then she kind of looked confused, and came out with, Well, Im black, and I like classical music. Before her was Mr. Clark - he tried getting popular by bringing James Brown to music class - those teachers didnt have it easy! Thank you, Henry People - I am loving these threads.
