..continue...We just sleep under the sky. No clouds and temperatures dropping from 27°C down to 6°C. My summer sleeping bag is on its limit and I wear almost all my cloths. There was terrible noise at night near our camp, like someone using an ax chopping trees. That must have been from some wombat or so, I wasnt bothered, used my earplugs and kept sleeping. Sunday. Hot beverages are really nice in the morning. Same procedure: More radio tasks. Slightly confusion sometimes about the purpose but thats part of it when you are down the ladder and dont have the greater picture. We just obey and do what we intend to. Same as before, bush bashing, following creeks up and down in hot temperatures. We meet other teams coming from different areas and we all gather up in the swamp, which was actually really dry. 15.00, we call for helicopter extraction, make sure we dont have to walk out since we are low on water. The wind picked up and we were concerned about the chopper option. A walk would add 4-5hrs to the mission, more 5 hrs in our conditions. We received chopper confirmation a bit later. The fly out was rougher due to the wind, some 50m above trees we transit back to Base. I wasnt feeling worn out at all, till I came across the catering. Sugar! I scull down a ice cold drink and that hit me. Food was my main priority from there on. While chewing fruits we have our debriefing, interrupted by the helicopter coming and going. I didnt really believe that I would find him. It was more about filling out more blank space on the maps, so the operation can say: Hes not there, we searched. Sure I would have loved to find a trace or anything that would have helped to get the puzzle together, but we didnt find anything. On the other hand, I met great people, walked in bushland where possibly nobody ever walked before, used and learned more bush and navigation skills. Who knows what happens to the poor fella. We all hope for the best. I learned that I can relay on the rescue teams and the bush walker clubs when I end up in trouble, thats good to know. Please always leave a note with your intentions behind.
