**copied with a little addition** Dress the child like a child. In recent times we have heard of series of rape cases and 60% of them were cases of little girls being abused by older men. Its really very sad. The dailies and media recently have been talking so much against rape. The ongoing National Conference also took a hard stance on the prevalent of rape cases across the country and came up with recommendation of a death penalty to anybody found guilty of raping a minor and life imprisonment with hard labour for anybody convicted of rape. And just yesterday(24th June,2014),the Kano State House of Assembly passed into law the state Rape Prohibition Bill 2014. The law provides a maximum of life sentence for convicted rapists. The new law also stipulated an ad. But will this really give us the required result? Again,, in court today, I watched as the judge refuse bail for persons charged with Rape! In one instance, there was no complainant,no witnesses, and the prosecution simply behaved like he does not have any evidence. Yet bail was refused, because it was rape! Much as this is all good, As I was pondering over the issue and how there can be a lasting solution, something struck my mind. Dress the child like a child whats this? Dear parents I have observed that the way we dress our little girls these days are sometimes very provocative. I wonder if there are no more decent clothes for little girls that we expose them to mini skirts, bum shorts, alter neck, tight fitted clothes, belle button exposing tops(aka lagos jump) and the likes. Some of us even paint their nails, make them up, do outrageous hair styles for them etc. When you do the above, you are unconsciously exposing your little girl to the risk of being raped. Dress your girl properly. Let her enjoy her childhood. Stop proving unnecessary points that will later cause you and that little girl pains. Also, pls dont allow men to carry your female child on their laps in the name of petting them, firmly caution every guy that is fond of hitting your baby girl on her bum or calls her his wife. (Lets be wise) This is certainly not the only reason for rape. But remember guys are moved by what they see. Dress the child like a child
